When I was 30 years old, I was diagnosed with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).  Over the next 23 years I added Sweet’s syndrome, enthesitis, and palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP).  I diligently followed my doctors’ instructions.  Being the data nerd that I am, I have been keeping a spreadsheet on my SED rate levels since 2009.  This is the measurement of inflammation in my body.  Even though treatments were easing some of my pain, my SED rate continued to climb over time.  Month to month measurements didn’t seem alarming at first sight but when you watch the rolling average increase over time, you realize that the root cause isn’t being addressed. Plus, we were having to add more and more medications as my regimen was becoming less and less effective. I began researching alternatives that addressed root cause.  I came across the term “functional medicine”.  I enrolled in an online class learning more about it.  The class leader mentioned how difficult it is to find functional medicine clinicians.  Then, whether by luck or divine intervention, I saw a post on Facebook from a girl I went to high school with mentioning how she was seeing a functional medicine person and she was highly recommending it.  I messaged her to find out who she was talking about.  She told me about Melissa Bass in our own hometown!  I never imagined I could find someone in my hometown.   I made an appointment with Melissa and through her guidance, we had some bloodwork and other tests done.  It was through her process that we found, pretty early, my Crohn’s disease as well as some other intestinal issues that could have been potentially pretty bad.  I credit her with finding these things so early that hospitalization was avoided.  In January of 2021, horribly ugly, oozing sores on my feet (I had been battling them to a lesser degree for about six months) reached a level that made it difficult to walk or wear shoes.  Again, Melissa’s plan completely got rid of them.  That alone has been worth it all.  Everything else is a bonus! Off methotrexate and Humira!!

Family and Health are 2 things we don’t appreciate until we realize they’re gone

Palmoplantar Pustulosis and RA Cleared

When I was 4 years old I developed vitiligo.  It began on my knees and quickly spread to my hands and feet. As a young child I hated it and people stared at me. I later grew to accept it. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that effects the melanin. You need melanin for skin color.

With Melissa’s help, it is clearing up and my melanin is returning. My skin color is returning!!
